Security Grilles - Welded diamond aluminium

It was in the early 1970's that the diamond type aluminium Amplimesh security was first offered as a material thought suitable for use in the manufacture of security grilles for doors and windows. I (Fred Phillips) of Screenco Manufacturers had this suggested usage put to me by Peter Watkins of Comalco. There was no frame at that time available so improvisation of existing flyscreen components saw the first grille door using Amplimesh installed in a house in Quill Street Stafford Hts

Soon afterwards Comalco produced a good heavy weight extruded frame and components. Whitco produced the first of their range of locks for these doors. Screenco was the first to display these new Amplimesh doors at an exhibition of security products at Brisbane City Hall organised by the crime prevention bureau of the Queensland Police Department.

With the co-operation from this new born industry of aluminium security grilles, Police Crime Prevention, Insurance Industry, lock manufacturers and Australian Standards these products have become a common sight on the Australian home . Along with this rapid growth in the fight against home and business invasions has come many variations that look the same but are less in strength and price

Screenco Manufacturers are reputed for offering better strengths of security doors and grilles. From those early beginnings we have endeavoured to demonstrate and inform our customers about the strength that can be expected from various methods of construction.

By listening to people who study crime prevention we endeavour to advise what is practical and best serving for the circumstances and people involved.

Screenco was a founding member of the Amplimesh Dealers Association and is a current member of the NSSA (National Security Screen Association) . In 1976 Screenco was the first dealer in Queensland to receive a licence to manufacture and label Blueprint doors. These doors where certified "Built to Australian Standards AS 2803"

The Blueprint doors was unique and the best security door at that time. The recommended retail price including installation was $450.00. Thousands of these doors were produced and in those years it was the flagship of the Amplimesh range. Screenco has never replaced a Blueprint door nor recorded a home invasion through one. After many years of service they still give the protection for which they were designed and installed. As good as the Blueprint door was its Australian market share never exceeded 2 percent.

The quest was on to produce a better, stronger and less expensive door. This was achieved by Tasman Henry in 19__. By re-designing the door frame he created a linkage strength of the grille to the frame that allows full penetration of the weld that maximises the strength of an HD20 door to have 3 times the resistance to impacting when compared to the Blueprint at about $100.00 less. A HD20 door which is fully welded at every 2nd touching point has an impact resistance that is 20 times that of most riveted doors.

The Prowler Proof door and window grilles of today meet with the highest standards for the best dollar value that I have seen in my 35 years in this industry. Prowler Proof doors and grilles are labeled HD10, HD20, HD40, SD30 and DD40. This labeling is the consumers guarantee that what has been quoted is actually supplied. The options of design, colour and strength are many and are always the customers choice.
